The Garden Therapy program provides groups having a variety of physical and sensory disabilities and other selected organizations the opportunity to participate in garden activities. Garden therapy enhances the social, educational, psychological and physical well-being of these people. It is heartwarming to see the participants light up with delight during these activities. They are so pleased with their accomplishments and appreciate the time we spend with them. Our activities not only improve their lives but the lives of their caregivers, families and our volunteers as well.
When opportunities become available, dates for activities will be announced at our general meetings and in The Leaflet. Our members always have the opportunity to help even if they cannot attend an activity. Join us for a program that generates an abundance of positive benefits!
Horticulture activities may include: creating fresh flower bouquets, holiday wreath designs, learning how to make pressed flower cards and bookmarks, planting flowers and herbs in containers and propagating plant cuttings.
Programs for this year can be found each month in The Leaflet and in Your Yearbook
The Garden Therapy group visited Morningside Assisted Living with residents creating floral arrangements. We also help the JobStart program with decorations for their graduation ceremonies in (June and December). Participants with the NC Division of Services for Deaf & Hard of Hearing created pressed flower cards.
