About Raleigh's "Secret Garden"

Discover the charm of the Isabelle Bowen Henderson House and Gardens, a Raleigh Historic Landmark listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Once home to the noted painter Isabelle Bowen Henderson, the family has preserved this unique Victorian property showcasing her artistry. Isabelle introduced the Williamsburg Revival style to Raleigh, crafting a unique enclave of buildings centered around the brick terrace.

Her garden masterfully juxtaposes the pragmatic of the Williamsburg Revival with the creativity of the Arts & Crafts Movement. Visit this historic gem and experience its captivating beauty firsthand on this only day open to the public.

A Centennial To Celebrate

Join The Raleigh Garden Club in marking a century of greening our city. An exhibit will honor Isabelle’s role as the Club’s “most valuable member” and highlight the gardener behind this magical place.

Since 1925, RGC has used its collective green thumb for the City of Raleigh: planting street trees, creating parks and iconic public gardens like the Rose Garden and Dix Chapel Garden, as well as member gardens like Isabelle Bowen Henderson’s historic garden and Margaret Reid’s Wildflower Garden.

Proceeds benefit the Raleigh Garden Club Community Donations.
